Shifra Fern-Weinbren

Shifra Fern-Weinbren is a master’s student at the University of Ottawa pursuing a MSc in Environmental Sustainability under the supervision of Dr. Sonia Wesche.

Shifra completed her bachelor’s (BES) at the University of Waterloo in Environment, Resources and Sustainability and minored in Indigenous studies. She is researching how the community of Paulatuk, Inuvialuit Settlement Region, NWT, is impacted by delays and cancellations to annual sea-lift shipments for food and equipment re-supply. Her research will focus on the household level impacts of these disruptions and understanding how climate change might be contributing to delays and cancellations.

Shifra is looking forward to working collaboratively with the community of Paulatuk to identify ways to improve sea-lift deliveries to Arctic communities.
